- This story is recorded in synoptic gospels and the book of John. Only Apostle John mentioned names : Philip and Andrew.
- You can not speak a little in the presence of the great I am, who spoke into nothing and something came into being. The problem of “a little” is based on what we see but not based on who we are talking to.
- John 6:7 Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.” Philip’s problem in the vastness of the need.
- John 6: 9 “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” Andrew’s problem is the little of the supply
- These are our problem, the consciousness of the vast of the need and of the little of the supply. Neither of them is looking at Jesus. We are looking at the vastness of the need : body to be healed, paycheck to be paid and we internally give up. Solution : look to Jesus. Bring Jesus into the situation.
- God’s way : What is in your hand? Moses had only the shepherd’s rod, God turn it to the rod of God in which Moses opened the red sea. Elisha asked “what do you have in your house?” A little pot of oil and with that God multiply that.
- God has ways we do not know of. God’s way no 1. With God a little becomes much. We despise the little we have, we don’t think God can do much with us.
- God’s way no 2. Whatever you give to God, it will multiply. God never asked what you don’t have. If you have talent in something, give it to the Lord. The Lord doesnot forget what you give
- God’s way no 3. The supply always is greater than the need and God’s supply never stop until we stop it. In the story of feeding 5K, Jesus gave as much as they wanted – this is God’s will. When God gives, He will supply more than enough, plenty left over. God never stops granting mercy to Sodom until Abraham stop asking. The oil did not stop to multiply until running out of bottles. The bread and fishes did not stop to multiply until they were filled. Jesus kept on giving the bread and fishes to His disciples. We need to always come back to Him for fresh supply and we never come back empty. He will give lavishly.
- God’s way no 4. before the miracle can happen, you need to sit down and rest. Give your worries and anxiety to him (sit down).
- God’s way no 5. Start thanking God no matter of circumstances, whatever you give thanks for, the little becomes much. The miracle happen after giving thanks. Miracles of parenting, provision, for your mind happen after you giving thanks.
- The economy of God : the greater need/bigger problem, the easier for God, it takes less to deal with bigger. The world’s economy is based on scarcity : allocation of insufficient resources. That why we talk like Philip and Andrew
- It is not a matter of hard or soft prayer but to whom you pray to. If you look to yourself, it will be hard or soft prayer, don’t turn prayer into works
- Another principle of God’s economy : increasing by division (Jesus broke the bread), multiplication by subtraction (Jesus gave the bread)
- God will renew your strength and your youth. God will always return back, and the things you give Him will multiply. God will maximize the mind, body and soul. The problem is not in the supply but how much can you take? So pray : enlarge my capacity to receive
- Pray for position not only a job. Don’t look at the littleness of my education and experience vs the vastness of the qualification needed. Giving thanks for what you have, and rest, “for the man will not rest until the matter is settled today.” (Ruth 3:18)
- In God : nothing is lost and no lack and no waste
- Proverbs 11: 25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
- If you see the vastness of need : body, family, marital situation, emotional state, acknowledge that the need is beyond you and start looking to Him, the exhaustible supply. He will bless us with more than enough
